Overview
You can change the order of line items on a proposal by dragging them into the position you want. This lets you present services and materials in the sequence that makes the most sense for your customer.
The new order is saved as you work and shows up the same way on the proposal your customer sees. Reordering is available while you're editing a draft proposal.
When to Use This Feature
You added items out of order and want to group related work together — for example, putting all labor first, then materials.
You want the most important or highest-value item to appear at the top of the proposal.
You built a proposal quickly and now want to tidy up the order before sending it to your customer.
You used a cloned or pricebook-based proposal and need to rearrange the items to fit this specific job.
How to Reorder Line Items — Web App
Reorder items while you're editing a draft proposal.
Open the draft proposal you want to edit so the line items are visible.
Find the drag handle on the line item you want to move.
Click and hold the handle, then drag the item up or down. A line shows where the item will land.
Release the item in its new spot. The order updates right away and saves automatically.
Your totals stay the same — reordering only changes how the items are arranged, not the math.
Tips & Best Practices
Order with the customer in mind. Put the items they care about most near the top so they see them first.
Group similar work. Keeping related items together — like all materials in one block — makes the proposal easier to read.
Check the preview before sending. Open the proposal preview to confirm the order looks the way you want before it goes to your customer.
Drag slowly and deliberately. Click and hold the handle for a moment before moving, so the item doesn't snap back.
Things to Know
Reordering is available on proposals while you're editing a draft.
The order you set is the order your customer sees on the sent proposal.
When a proposal is approved and becomes a job, the line item order carries over.
Reordering never changes your prices, taxes, discounts, or totals — only the arrangement of the items.
You need permission to edit proposals to reorder their line items.
Troubleshooting
I don't see a way to drag my items.
Make sure you're editing a draft proposal in the Web App. Look for the drag handle on each line item and click and hold it to move the item.
My item snaps back instead of moving.
Click and hold the drag handle for a moment before you start dragging, then release the item once the insertion line shows where it will land.
I can't reorder items on an invoice or change order.
Reordering is currently available on proposals.
